In recent years, we have usually spent a week around the month of May at the 'Best Western Hotel in Loches' (Loire). This is a Premier hotel of the chain, housed in a former courthouse that has been converted into a luxury residence in a particularly tasteful manner.

The historic building itself is beautiful and forms a perfect combination of authentic charm and modern luxury, which you might not immediately expect from a hotel of this chain. Every detail—from the spacious, well-appointed rooms to the restaurant and the spa—exudes quality. Moreover, the rooms at the front and the terrace offer a beautiful view of the centuries-old village center. In short: the hotel is highly recommended.

However, the cuisine and the quality of the service staff stand in striking contrast to this. We advise against dining at the hotel. Although the dishes look visually appealing, they lack depth of flavor and refinement.

The breakfast, on the other hand, is excellent, with a wide selection. Fortunately, Loches and the surrounding area offer excellent alternatives, such as the Michelin-starred 'Restaurant Arbore & Sens', alongside several good pizzerias. Amboise is about a half-hour drive away, where a wide range of quality restaurants can be found, such as 'Brasserie Hippeau'. Here you can enjoy delicious food (French-oriented cuisine) at a very good price-quality ratio.

In summary: a beautiful, stylishly renovated hotel that is perfect for an overnight stay, with an excellent spa, but for a good meal you are better off elsewhere. However, we will certainly return to the hotel.

A prime location for exploring the region is the first major advantage of this magnificent hotel, with its period architecture. We booked four days and three nights and had an excellent stay. The staff was very welcoming, friendly, and attentive. Breakfast wasn't exceptional but was on par with the standard of other four-star hotels we've stayed in. Dinner, however, was excellent, featuring fresh, carefully prepared ingredients. The hotel is beautiful, and the room was spacious. We slept like royalty. The secluded indoor pool was a real plus. We will definitely be back.
